Since the beginning of humanity, people have contemplated their role in the universe. Dr. Maria Montessori wrote, “We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.” She understood that to have meaning and fulfillment in our daily work, we must feel that we are contributing to larger goals: the improvement of the self, the work of a community, and the construction of a continually improving world.
Bloomington Montessori strives to fulfill this vision every day. We provide holistic, child-centered education to the Bloomington community. We also partner with like-minded organizations throughout the area because we understand that when a community thrives, its children thrive.
Please join us in this work by donating to the 2024-2025 Annual Campaign. Your donation will fuel teacher development, increase access for families through scholarships, and ensure the long-term sustainability of our organization.
Bloomington Montessori has been fortunate to achieve several major goals in the past year:
- Service to over 200 children and their families through our mission to guide children from self-discovery to global citizenship through Montessori education.
- Increased campus ecological sustainability by installing solar panels and LED lighting.
- We have taken steps forward in growing our scholarship program, including establishing an investment fund dedicated to increasing access to Montessori education in our community.
- This fund will grow passively through maximized compounding interest.
- Staff development through the completion of certification for a new Lead Teacher in Upper Elementary through an accredited Montessori Teacher Education Program.
- Deepening community connection and partnership, such as work with our BMS/Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard Fall Fun Run 5K, intern partnerships with IU and South High School, Habitat for Humanity family service project, MCUM Lower Elementary support, and more.
Yet we still have work to do! Our vision is to continue to grow our impact and to become a center for peace and education in Bloomington, and we cannot do this without you. Upcoming goals include:
- Continued growth of the scholarship program by adding additional scholarships and fully funding existing scholarships.
- Adding a second phase of solar panel installation.
- New partnerships to help our students connect with the larger Bloomington-area community.
- Development of a robust staff recruitment, retention, and development program; research supports that teacher quality is a key factor in student outcomes, and long-term retention and development ensures we continue to have quality educators excited to serve your children every day. We are so fortunate to have high staff retention, and continuing to nurture these relationships creates opportunities for professional development to go deeper, resulting in cutting-edge work and professional learning at our school and within the Montessori education community.
- Continuing to build our student services supports, such as partnerships with pediatric mental health professionals for teacher consultation and direct services for Tier 2 and 3 students and families.
Please consider donating to the 2024-2025 Annual Campaign. Donations made by December 31st will be included in a BMS Board of Directors match challenge! Your gift enriches the lives of students, builds the capacity of staff, increases access to Montessori education in our community, and ensures that BMS will be serving the Bloomington area for another 56 years.
As Dr. Montessori wrote, children are the hope and promise for mankind. Join us–dedicated staff members, supportive families, diligent board and committee volunteers from throughout the community–in investing in the future through access to holistic education for our children. Montessori is not just an education; it is a movement for social change that works to develop skills such as empathy, unity, creativity, problem-solving, conflict resolution, independence, and intrinsic motivation. These are skills that can make a positive impact on our community long after graduation. Please join us in this important work by donating today.
