Fundraising Activities

Bloomington Montessori School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization!

Fundraising and Development activities are critical for our growth.

Pays for staff salaries & primary benefits This allows us to provide continuing education (e.g., anti-bias, anti-racism training), conferences, and a supportive environment for staff.
Pays for essential classroom materials Provides flexibility to respond to unique classroom needs and interests (e.g, Magnolia and Hickory classroom furniture, updated technology for UE students)
Pays the mortgage for Bloomington Montessori School Provides the opportunity to beautify and update our campus in ways that align with our values (e.g., installation of solar panels, new flooring in several classrooms, interior painting, outside facade repair and painting)
Funds the attendance of our students Allows us to help fund the Montessori education of students in our community via our scholarship program
Funds parent-teacher conferences and direct parent education. Allows us to offer Montessori programming to the Bloomington community at large via workshops with community partners and participate in community events as a school
Gives us an annual budget for successful operation It gives us the flexibility to respond to changes (e.g., COVID management) and the security to plan for the future of BMS

Development dollars allow us to move toward our vision - to become a center of peace and education in our community.

HOW DOES BMS RAISE FUNDS?

We have events throughout the year designed to accommodate families' varied availability, resources, and interests. We hope that there is something on the calendar for everyone!

Most of our development funds are received through our Annual Campaign, which will kick off on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Bookmark the day now for our annual live-streaming event! We also raise money through grant applications and sponsorships for our programs and community events.

Development at any nonprofit organization takes “time, talent, and treasure.” If you have the time or talent for development and fundraising work, contact Quinn McAvoy at headofschool@montessori.k12.in.us to learn about volunteer opportunities.

These events are educational and benefit other non-profits in the greater Bloomington community. Teacher Appreciation Week is the first full week in May, and also is not considered a school fundraiser as contributed money and resources go directly to BMS staff members.
